Helsinki /European Capital of Culture, 2000
in co-operation with Tellervo Kalleinen, Produced by Artists´association Muu
We invited seven European artists / artist groups to plan and guide a city tour in Helsinki. One of the tours was made by our own performance group Voukkoset:
On a walking street the audience became street performers: They had to clap their hands in a rhythm while we sang a song "Mikkihiiri merihädässä" ("Mickey Mouse in sea distress"). When the song was finished we collected money from those who had stopped to watch our bizarre street concert. With the money we bought ice cream for everybody (actually the ice cream was sponsored - the money we earned wouldn´t have been enough to buy 80 ice creams).
Tellervo carried her bike on top of the high stairs of the main cathedral of Helsinki. Niina stayed with the audience and told them that she will drive the stairs down with her bike. Excitement grew… And then Tellervo came, all the way down! (In fact it was a stunt man who drove the stairs down).
In the end of the tour, which was lasting 2 hours, we brought the audience to our home (it was quite tight because there was 5 times more audience than we had expected). There we made a concert together with a legendary Finnish underground band Motelli Skronkle.
