"Vuokkoset" later "Voukkoset" was an experimental femalechoir. Members were: Niina Braun (Lehtonen), Tellervo Kalleinen, Rosa Pyhälä, Laura Hilska, Mirka Raito & Sini Haapalinna. We started as a girlchoir. Anybody who was brave enough to wear the red unsexy choir costume was welcome to join our group. No singing skills were asked! In the beginning, on year 1998 our shows had a form of choirpiece. We performed the whole show till the end even we made mistakes and chaos on the stage. Sometimes we had to start the song many times from the beginning. Even we were nervous we were happy to stand on the stage as a group, do something together, be present and to sing. Alone this groupfeeling gave a great power. Then we started to be selfconfident and do more variable shows. Each of us could show out her skills and personality. We added different performative numbers to the show: dancing, competitions for the public, costumeplays, "striptease", puppettheater, slideshows, funny speaks etc. But songs stayed always as the base of the show; we were still a choir. Vuokkoset has performed in many different locations and situations: private homes, on the streets, clubs, art exhibitions, festivals, bars, on TV. Summer 1999 we made our unforgettable "worldtour"; three weeks on the road. BERLIN: Galerie Fehre, Club Bastard, HAMBURG: Golden Pudel Club, AUGSBURG: Club Pavian, WIEN: 7 Stern ..and several home-visits and consert in public spaces. ONCE A VUOKKONEN - ALWAYS A VUOKKONEN!!
